Both the Photina Red Robin and the Holly hedge are great hedges to create a privacy screen or border in your garden. They can both be easily cared for with a little pruning and trimming.
The Photina Red Robin is a fast-growing hedge that can reach up to 3 metres in height. It has glossy, dark green leaves and produces red berries which are loved by birds. To keep your Photina Red Robin looking its best, prune it regularly to shape it and remove any dead or damaged branches.
The Holly hedge is a slower growing hedge but can still reach up to 2 metres in height. It has dark green, spiky leaves and produces small white flowers in springtime followed by red berries in winter. Like the Photina Red Robin, the Holly hedge will benefit from regular pruning to keep it looking neat and tidy. You can also trim the hedge to create a more formal shape if you prefer.
The Photina Red Robin is highly tolerant to drought and does not require regular watering. During the first growing season, you will need to keep the soil slightly moist. In comparison to the Holly hedge, it will require water during the drought season and as fall approaches before the ground freezes.
The Red Robin does need fertilization, when the Red Robin is growing slowly, you will need a slow-release fertilizer. In comparison to the Holly, it will need liquid fertilizer every two weeks. It is important to not overdo it as it can cause a negative reaction.
